Maintenance Tip
The Importance of Maintenance Assessments: Assessments provide an objective view of the current state; identifying strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement. Third party assessments are often more objective as they are typically conducted by those who do not work on-site and are not swayed to internal politics, or blinded by things that have become part of the “norm”.

Become a Cutting-Edge Professional
This goal is easier said than done; however here are a few pointers to help direct your efforts:
- Training & Certification: Attend and participate in:
- Professional Society Certification (e.g. SMRP’s CMRP & CMRT Certification)
- Conferences
- On-site Training
- Public Training Events
- Webinars
- Self-Teaching: Purchase the latest books and white papers; engage with other professionals in online forums and discussion groups.
- Networking: Network with your peers at the training venues mentioned above, professional society meetings, and in the online networks. Share as much knowledge with your peers as you can and obtain even more from them. Sometimes people are worried about sharing too much knowledge; however the more you share, the more you’ll receive in return. An additional benefit is the more you recite your knowledge, the more familiar and ingrained it will become to you.
To truly internalize knowledge and skills they must be put to practice. Attempt to add value at your facility with your new knowledge and skills in any way that aligns with your company’s goals. It is not a short or easy process, but it will certainly be worth it!
View every moment as an opportunity to learn, develop and improve. One final but vital point to remember; in order to achieve excellence in any field it is essential to view “failures” as opportunities to learn. Rather than viewing “failures” as road-blocks view them as kindling for further improvement.
