We are THRILLED to announce our first maintenance certification: Marshall Institute Certified Maintenance Planner (MI-CMP).

This certification is more than a test of your current knowledge.  Of course we will test your knowledge AND performance, but we also take you through a guided training and hands-on coaching pathway to boost your ability as a Planner BEFORE we test and certify you.

Our goal is to improve your knowledge, and your actual job-focused performance. This certification WILL boost your confidence and capability as a Maintenance Planner.

The Certification includes the following courses and exams:

• Course 1: Maintenance Planning Overview
• Module 2: Job Scoping
• Module 3: Job Planning
• Module 4: Planning Continuous Improvement
• Certification Exams (knowledge and application)

What’s the experience going to be like?

Once you are enrolled, you will be joining a group of fellow Planners in the certification process in what we are calling ‘a Wave’.  You will go through the entire certification journey together.  The certification follows a pattern of education, knowledge test, application practice and skill test. You will receive custom and specific feedback from your coach on your application practice and exercises.

What makes the Certification special?

This certification is designed to boost the Planner’s job-specific competency and confidence as a Maintenance Planner. This certification will provide the Planner with a greater ability to support proactive maintenance practices at your site. Planners will experience the certification development pathway in a Wave (a group of 5 students), which will be led by a Marshall Institute coach. To gain their certification, planners will complete both knowledge transfer and application exercises over 16 active weeks, and must pass the certification knowledge and application exams.  

The knowledge portion is a mixture of live training, self-paced training with knowledge checks, and knowledge tests. The application learning includes hands-on, real world application of in-plant exercises, individual coaching sessions to review application exercises, and group coaching sessions to discuss best practices and support each other throughout the process. We end the certification with two exams, one knowledge and one application, to prove and certify their competency.

1. How does certification work?
The certification journey, or pathway as we call it, consists of 3 main components: education, Application practice, and exams. You must successfully complete all learning modules and associated tests, you must meet all requirements and criteria for the applications exercises, and you must pass both exams. each component to become a MI CMP (Marshall Institute Certified Maintenance Planner).

2. How long is the Certification Journey?
The certification pathway consists of 16 active weeks. The chronological duration my vary by a few weeks if there are Holidays during the pathway.

3. Are there any pre-requisites to participation in the certification pathway?
Because this certification is about developing job-focused competency, the only pre-requisite is that you must be working in an environment that will allow you to complete planner related activities in actual working conditions.

4. What is the certification price?
The certification (development pathway + exams) is $3,995 per person.

5. What if there is a Holiday week during the Wave?
We will typically avoid Holiday weeks and as such we do not require any learning, application exercise, or homework to be done during Holiday weeks. Holiday weeks will communicated to you by your Coach.

6. What is a Wave?
A Wave is group students who will be going through the certification pathway together. Each Wave will be led by a Coach.

7. Can I just take the exams?
No. This is no ordinary credential. We don’t just verify your current knowledge. This special certification provides you with a growth pathway to deepen your knowledge and grow your job-focused competency, before we verify you with exams.

8. How often will Wave run each year?
We anticipate a minimum of 3 Waves per year but we will add Waves to match student demand.

9. How many hours per week do I need to commit?
On average you will be working 5-7 hours per week for the 16 active weeks. This time includes training, group sessions, individual coaching, and application practice at your facility. If you are working as a planner, many of these hours (application time) will be part of daily workload
